Imposter Scams: Be Aware

As we continue to provide information on recent fraud trends, please be aware of imposter scams impacting individuals nationwide. Fraudsters are using spoofed contact information to call, text, and even email customers, pretending to be from Hawthorn Bank.

To protect your accounts, here’s what we do and do not ask when verifying a transaction.

We will never:

  • Ask you for your full debit or credit card number, CVV number, and expiration date
  • Ask you for your full account number
  • Make threats about your account
  • Ask you for your online banking username and password combination
  • Ask you to provide a One-Time Passcode or Token, if we call you

We might:

  • Ask you to verify your identity
  • Send you a One-Time Passcode, if you call us
  • Confirm your online banking user ID (but again, we will not ask you for your password)
  • Ask you to verify the validity of recent transactions

If you have questions about whether anyone who calls you is legitimate – hang up and call us back on a trusted number. We will always be understanding and supportive of measures to protect your accounts.
